My set will be the 4th and final one of the evening. The other 3 will involve folks such as Patrick Brennan, Hilliard Greene, Jason Kao Hwang, and Cooper-Moore!!

Lorin Benedict, Eric Markowitz, and Smith Dobson V play the Stow Lake Boathouse Jazz series

 —  —

Stow Lake Boathouse, 50 Stow Lake Drive East, San Francisco, CA

Lorin Benedict- voice, Eric Markowitz- bass, and Smith Dobson V- drums play this GREAT series within the urban/sylvan wonder of Golden Gate Park. These events are quite unique in that the typical audience member signs up to attend WITHOUT knowing WHO will be playing on any given occasion! But YOU know who'll be playing there on THIS occasion, because you're reading this very event listing!! ;)

I will be mixing it up with the WONDERFUL duo, AURA, which is Marcos Morales Valdes on drums, and Odalys Caro on keyboards. I'm REALLY, REALLY excited for this, to put it mildly!! And it's been quite some time since I last performed at this FANTASTIC yearly event. We'll be playing from 2:30pm - 3:10pm (exactly!), in the Taube Atrium Theater within the SF War Memorial Building.

Lorin Benedict + Jeong Lim Yang & Santiago Leibson

 —  —

The Bistro, 1001 B St., Hayward, CA

I will be making music with the GREAT NY-based bassist, composer, and bandleader Jeong Lim Yang, and ALSO the wonderful NY-based pianist Santiago Leibson. They'll both be out here doing a west-coast tour with Lim's Zodiac Suite Trio (with the 3rd member being Gerald Cleaver), but Lim and I wanted to set aside some time to play with each other BEFORE that all kicks off ;)

Julián and Friends at the Jazz Showcase

 — (CDT, UTC-05) — (CDT, UTC-05)

Jazz Showcase, 806 S Plymouth St., Chicago, IL

It turns out that the MAGNIFICENT Levi Lu will be unable to make it to Chicago for this :( , so (as a last-minute substitute), I will be filling in for them! Julián Pujols Quall- piano, composition, and bandleader; Charlie Reichert-Powell- guitar; Leo Buczkowski- bass; Oscar Evely- drums; Yours Truly- voice.

I will be joining my old buddy/colleague Ben Zucker and their other vocalist cohorts in a half-set of improvising! Ben and I know each other from when we worked together in Ramon & Jessica's Gertrude Stein project (in 2017). This show is likely to take on a celebratory flavor, owing to the fact that Ben JUST graduated with a PhD in composition from Northwestern. Yay... go Ben!! :)

Danny Grewen & Griffanzo (+ me as a guest) in Chapel Hill

 —  —

Imbibe, 108 Henderson St., Chapel Hill, NC

Trombonist/vocalist Danny Grewen and pianist Robert Griffin (aka Griffanzo) have a weekly gig at this Cajun restaurant. Danny and I go WAY back... to when he lived and played in San Francisco, and he's offered me the opportunity to join them on this evening, during my visit to the state of North Carolina. :)

Apr14

Pianist Hannah Mayer, a student in the Peabody Conservatory Jazz program, has a monthly show at this performance venue... and it's live-streamed as well! On this particular occasion, she will feature me. Also in the band will be- I believe- drummer Koleby Royston (that's right... son of the great Rudy Royston).
